Nick –
The heel cup wore out shortly after the first year. They sat unused for a while due to the wear. Tried sending back for warranty repair and was told it’s out of warranty. The heel cup was made of obviously cheap material. Could have been an easy fix to keep a customer. Will not buy again..

I bought this pair to replace another pair, not because the others are useless, but because after 5 years of enduring running, water and tough terrain the looks are not the best. I will still use the old ones for taking care of the garden and other chores that require durable shoes.

I needed a comfortable pair of walking shoes. I had an older pair of North Face from about 5 years ago. So decided to start my search there. I first brought the Headhodge hiking and walking shoes. they were comfortable. So decided to get another pair of North Face walking shoes for daily wear.
I brought these GTX 109’s. They were so comfortable I absolutely love them. So much, that I decided to switch. As I walk by dog between 2 to 5 miles daily, I made the GTX 109’s as my walking shoes and the Headhodes as my daily wear shoes.

I’ve owned three pairs of these shoes and love them, but the last 2 pairs that I’ve purchased literally fell apart. These are my go-to shoes for light hikes and strolls with my dogs. Despite regular wear the uppers have remained in perfect condition, but the soles eventually became detached from the footbed. As a result, the shoes leak from the bottom walking on wet grass. Great shoes – wish they wouldn’t fall apart.

Great overall shoe that feels solid. I ordered about 6 similar styles from NorthFace and Saucony and this was the winner for me. It came down to this and The North Face Trail Edge Waterproof in blue. Both are excellent and it was hard to decide. I think this edged out because it is more diverse as far as color goes. Excellent arch support and should last a while.
Hugh –
Hugely disappointed This shoes only have 323 mile on them. They are comfortable however this Type of wear is totally unacceptable.

Excitement quickly went away after a single use. After a 15 mile hike, I took my shoes off at the trailhead and noticed some of the rubber grips on one sole were peeling off. Upon further inspection, 8 out of the 10 traction grips are gone or almost gone. The rest of the shoe seems fine and the other shoe seems fine, no peeling there. Need better QC for a relatively high priced brand.

Buyer beware. Something has changed over time with regard to product quality.
Within 3-6 months after purchasing, the gore tech membrane leaked and no longer kept my feet dry. Additionally, all of my shoes developed a tear in the mesh fabric near the toe cap on the right shoe. This has happened on at least 3 pairs that I have owned. This were not used for rugged trails. As a matter of fact, most of my daily walks are on a concrete path. An email to Northface brought about no assistance or explanation as to why this might be occurring. No offer to make it right. Very disappointed.

This is my second pair. Durable, comfortable, stylish. The fit and width is true to size. I used inserts for additional arch support. I original ones come out easily. Good price as well.

Great shoes. Just what I was looking for.

These are the only shoes I can find that are waterproof and work for my wide ball-of-foot and narrow heel. I can use different shoelace tying methods to secure my heel to the back of the shoe while keeping the front end loose. I used to get Montrail but after they were bought out by Columbia they changed the design. These come closest to replicating my old Montrails. Thanks!

I have been wearing North Face hiking/trail running shoes for years. They always feel true to size and after a short break in time they are very comfortable. They wear well and are very waterproof. I used to run everyday with my dogs and got great support and traction from North Face shoes. The Ultra 109’s are no execption/
